Yeovil is a vibrant market town located in the heart of the picturesque countryside of South Somerset and is well placed with excellent road links via the A37, A30 and A303, and access to the M5 motorway at Taunton.
The town is located on the Somerset / Dorset border and is therefore is also not far from the World Heritage coastline to the south.
Yeovil - the major town of South Somerset - boasts a fascinating history, the best shopping centre in a very wide area and enough attractions to fill several days of a holiday. Its modern pedestrian shopping precinct recalls the town's Roman roots in its name, the Quedam, while housing many national retailers. The town centre also has a major department store, countless specialist shops and outdoor markets on Tuesdays and Fridays.
It has palaeolithic remains, was on an old Roman road and was recorded in the Domesday Book as the town of Givle, and later became a centre for the glove making industry.
In the 20th century Yeovil developed into a centre of the aircraft and defence industries, which made it a target for bombing in World War II, with one of the largest employers being AgustaWestland who manufacture helicopters. Several other manufacturing and retail companies also have bases in the town.
Yeovil is very much happy medium for those looking to live within easy reach of a town with excellent facilities but who still want the quality of life associated with the many pretty villages of the surrounding South Somerset countryside.
